The EU law and animal protection during international transport
Malgorzata Lubelska-Sazanów

The European Union plays an important role in increasing of public awareness in the issues of animal welfare. The legislatory changes in this issue are caused not only by the modern trend of healthy living promoting a close contact with respect to nature, but also by the impact of media revealing procedures taking place behind the scenes of animal slaughter.

Unfortunately, we are not able to totally stop the animal slaughter at this day, but we have an impact on the way the animals are treated during these procedures. The most visible progress in the attitude of European Union legislators can be observed in the laws concerning the international transport of animals. Unfortunately, these regulation still do not provide an accurate level of protection of animals. During my presentation I will try to present the legal basics concerning the transportation of animals before slaughter and how they are being observed in practice - if we will all be aware of the legal provisions, it will be easier to control and counteract the inhumane treatment of animals.
